A Physiatric consultation involves a global assessment of the problem presented, the potential for recovery, the associated pathologies, the pain and the psychosocial aspects. Through the visit, the physiatrist will identify the diagnosis and prescribe the most suitable rehabilitation program for the patient which can be physiotherapeutic, physiatric interventional (infiltration, mesotherapy, shock waves) or pharmacological, indicating the methods and duration of the services.
Shock waves are high-energy acoustic waves produced by special generators and capable of propagating in the tissues, in a rapid and repeated sequence. They are characterized by a particular waveform which differentiates them from ultrasound and which is responsible for the positive biological effects applicable in the therapeutic field.
The consequence of these positive effects consists in an increase in vascularization in the treated area which allows a removal of the mediators of inflammation and consequently of pain, the release of substances that stimulate the formation of new vessels (angiogenesis) and of mediators that block the transmission of pain.
Joint infiltrations are a medical therapy, administered through the injection of a specific drug (anti-inflammatory, cortisone, local anesthetic or hyaluronic acid solution) inside one or more joints. Their purpose is to limit pain and inflammation of the injured part. Joint infiltration therapy promotes pain reduction and improves joint mobility.
Mesotherapy allows the treatment of acute, chronic and degenerative pain by injectingsmall quantities of medication in the superficial cutaneous layer. The big advantage of pain-relieving mesotherapy is that it uses minimal quantities of drugs which spread mainly in the inoculation sites, eliminating the multi-organ side effects which can instead be associated with the use of drugs in tablets or intramuscularly
